About Bombay Cat

The Bombay cat is a distinct breed distinguished by its sleek black coat, copper-colored eyes, and lively demeanor. Its origins can be traced back to the mid-twentieth century. The Bombay cat’s history is as follows:

Beginnings with Nikki Horner: Nikki Horner, an American breeder, developed the Bombay breed in the 1950s. Her ambition was to create a cat breed that looked like a miniature panther, with a glossy black coat and piercing copper or gold eyes. To do this, she began a selective breeding experiment involving multiple cat breeds.
Early crossbreeding: Nikki Horner’s breeding effort consisted mostly on mixing American Shorthair cats with Burmese cats. The Bombay’s sleek black coat was influenced by the American Shorthair, while the Burmese influenced the breed’s personality qualities, eye color, and body shape.
